Paperback (Independently published, Feb. 20, 2019)
Hot-headed Lilia is seen as nothing but a vulgar source of embarrassment to her late husband's family, so her decision to embark on a year abroad in Tuscany is welcomed by her uptight and snobbish mother-in-law. Yet Lilia doesn't stay away from scandal long; her announcement that she is to marry the charismatic but ill-bred Gino is met with horror by the rest of the family. Their union ends in tragedy and violence as her English relatives confront their Italian counterparts, as well as their own cultural values, amidst the beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

    Paperback (Digireads.com Publishing, Feb. 12, 2020)
“Where Angels Fear to Tread” is the impassioned novel by E. M. Forster, the acclaimed English novelist and essayist. Published in 1905, the title was inspired by a quote from Alexander Pope: “For fools rush in where angels fear to tread”. This affecting and thought-provoking novel is the story of Lilia Herriton, an English widow, who while traveling with her friend Caroline Abbott in Italy, falls in love with Gino, a much younger Italian man. This puts Lilia at odds with her dead husband’s family as they see this new relationship as a betrayal. In spite of the family’s opposition, Lilia decides to stay in Italy and marries Gino. The Herritons try to stop her by sending Lilia’s brother-in-law, Philip, to Italy but he is too late and she is already married and pregnant by the time Philip arrives. Sadly, Lilia’s happiness in her new life is short-lived and she dies giving birth to her son. The Herritons cannot leave the matter alone however and return to Italy in an attempt to take custody of Lilia’s child and raise him as an Englishman, setting in motion a tragic chain of events. Forster’s novel remains a powerful critique of the narrow-mindedness of English society at the beginning of the 20th century. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

They were all at Charing Cross to see Lilia off—Philip; Harriet; Irma; Mrs. Herriton herself. Even Mrs. Theobald; squired by Mr. Kingcroft; had braved the journey from Yorkshire to bid her only daughter good-bye. Miss Abbott was likewise attended by numerous relatives; and the sight of so many people talking at once and saying such different things caused Lilia to break into ungovernable peals of laughter.“Quite an ovation;” she cried; sprawling out of her first-class carriage. “They’ll take us for royalty. Oh; Mr. Kingcroft; get us foot-warmers.”Popular Collection of Hindi eBooks @ Rs. 51/-Where Angels Fear to Tread by E. M. Forster

The book is perfect for the classroom, but any reader will gain greater insight into the novel from this classroom edition.Where Angels Fear To Tread is ... a whirlwind that spins around the character of Philip Herriton, who is torn between what he believes is right, and what he has been taught to believe is right. His attraction to the swarthy Gino adds an unspoken layer of tension to that conflict. It’s a surprising book because it defies convention, and oscillates between comedy and tragedy. -- Christopher Bryant, Polari Magazine
